Vocations

The organisation presently dealing with enquiries for the Religious Life on behalf of CoR is COMPASS, this organisation acts as a clearing house for enquiries about Religious Life in England and Wales.

COMPASS helps you find your direction and enables you to respond to the call of Christ in your life. If you have ever wondered whether life in a religious order - as a nun, monk, sister priest or brother – might be your life, then Compass is for you. Compass enables Catholics aged 20 – 35 to explore their spiritual future.

In a group of 6 – 8 men and women they meet one weekend a month for nine months, accompanied by a religious sister and a monk.

Visit www.compass-points.org.uk for more information.

The Compass Project

COMPASS is sponsored by a group of Roman Catholic Religious Orders and Congregations in England and Wales who belong to the Church’s official association, the Conference of Religious.

The members of the COMPASS Advisory Board are Sarah Dobson CJ, Abbot Christopher Jamison OSB, Margaret O’Shea PSMG, Martin Poulsom SDB, Matthew Power SJ.

The current leaders of the program are Sr Anne Spilberg and Fr Luke Jolly

The residential venue is Worth Abbey, Turner’s Hill, Near Crawley. Sussex.

COMPASS

Do you know where you are going?
Are you aged 20-35 and looking for more than the usual careers advice?
Has it ever flashed through your mind to become a nun, monk, sister or brother?

COMPASS may help you to find a sense of direction.

COMPASS offers you an opportunity to spend time with others who are searching, supported by experienced spiritual guides.

What sorts of people apply to join COMPASS?

You may be searching and talking to God within yourself.
You may have a desire to spend more time serving others, meditating, working for justice, praying.
You are a Catholic but want to reconnect or connect more profoundly with the Church.

So what is COMPASS?

COMPASS helps you to discern God’s will by reflecting on the Gospel with experienced leaders who belong to well known religious orders. You can continue your normal life and career while doing this.

COMPASS comprises both personal support and a residential program. It runs from October to June and includes one weekend a month and the whole of Holy Week at a house specially set aside for COMPASS at Worth Abbey in Sussex.

Each COMPASS group comprises a maximum of seven people, men and women. Currently, an Ursuline sister and a Benedictine monk lead the group. Each member is offered personal spiritual support throughout the nine month period, not just during the residential weekends. Participants are asked to contribute according to their financial means and those not in employment will be subsidised.

COMPASS offers time for discussion, prayer and community living. The group celebrates the rhythm of the Church’s year and there are opportunities for the celebration of the sacraments. Those who need to complete their sacramental membership of the Church have the opportunity to do so.

COMPASS also offers an introduction to the variety of religious orders to be found in the Catholic Church. Each member is offered the opportunity to explore if they have a vocation to the religious life, while not excluding that they may be called to other vocations.

CoR also links with other groups e.g. Buckden Towers, Hawkstone Hall, St Anselm's and St Luke's. Refer to the Formation page for more information.
