Research Survey: Faith & Hope in Times of Crisis

The Jesuit Institute's Deputy Director, Julia Ling-MacDonald, is working alongside Tasia Scrutton, Associate Professor at the University of Leeds, on a research project exploring faith and hope in the face of systemic crises, including ecological, social and political challenges.

As part of this project, they have developed a survey aimed at Roman Catholics actively involved in adult formation or teaching ministry in England and Wales.

The survey aims to inform research into the cultivation of active hope and the role of theological ideas in this, as well as helping to identify resources that could be offered or developed to support this work.

Who is invited to participate?
The researchers are inviting responses from individuals who meet the following criteria:

  • Roman Catholics

  • Based in England or Wales

  • Engaged in ministry to adults through spiritual or faith formation and/or theological education

Examples of relevant ministries include parish priests, deacons, parish assistants, RCIA team members, spiritual directors, retreat givers, novice directors and theological educators working within universities, seminaries or parishes.

Taking part in the survey
The survey takes approximately 25 minutes to complete. Participants will first be presented with information about data storage and consent before proceeding to the questions.

Anyone who would like to participate but is unable to complete the survey in its current format, for example due to accessibility requirements or a disability, is encouraged to contact the research team, who will endeavour to arrange an alternative means of participation.

Those who meet the criteria are warmly encouraged to take part and contribute to this research.
